INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DAY: EQUALITY, TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY: THE PILLARS OF HUMAN RIGHTS

The Ahalia School of Commerce and Mathematics observed International Human Rights Day on 10 December 2025 with a special programme organised at the ASCM Seminar Hall. The theme for this year’s observance was “Equality, Transparency & Accountability: The Pillars of Human Rights.” The event aimed to create awareness among students about the significance of human rights and the responsibilities of individuals and institutions in upholding them. The event commenced at 11.00 am with a formal welcome address by Prof. Dr. B. Vijayachandran Pillai, Principal & Director, Ahalia School of Management, who highlighted the global importance of Human Rights Day, commemorated worldwide on December 10 to mark the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Dr.Rajesh, Principal, ASCM delivered the felicitations and stressed the need for awareness and relevance of celebration of human rights day in academic institutions.

The resource person of the session was Adv. Reena Jaijith, District Court, Palakkad. In her insightful presentation, she elaborated on the theme “Equality, Transparency & Accountability: The Pillars of Human Rights.” The key points covered in her session include:

  • The foundational principles of equality and non-discrimination as cornerstones of human dignity.
  • How transparency in governance and institutions promotes justice and public trust.
  • Accountability as a crucial mechanism to safeguard citizens’ rights and prevent misuse of             power.
  • The role of youth, educational institutions and civil society in protecting and promoting human rights.

Her address encouraged students to be socially responsible, ethically conscious and active defenders of justice in their personal and professional lives. A brief interactive session followed, where faculties asked meaningful questions regarding legal rights, access to justice and ethical responsibilities. The speaker provided practical insights and encouraged students to be aware of their rights and duties as citizens. The session came to an end with a vote of thanks by Dr. M. Manju @ 1.00.pm.
