NEWS READING COMPETITION

On Saturday, 01 February 2025, a News Reading Competition was organized by Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Ahalia School of Commerce & Mathematics in association with the Press Club of Palakkad and Ahalia FM Radio, to promote news reading skills among high school and higher secondary school students. The venue for the program was the seminar hall of Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology. The inaugural session started at 10:00 A.M. Around 70 students from various schools participated in the competition. The inauguration ceremony began with a welcome address by Shri. Nissar A., of Ahalia Media. He warmly welcomed the dignitaries, guests, and participants to the event. Dr. Jagadeesh S. N., Principal, Ahalia School of Commerce & Mathematics, delivered the presidential address. He emphasized the importance of news reading skills in today’s fast-paced world and encouraged the participants to develop their skills. The chief guests, Shri. Noble Jose, President, Palakkad Press Club, inaugurated the event and Shri. M. Sreenesh, Secretary, Palakkad Press Club, addressed the gathering. They shared their experiences and insights on the importance of news reading and journalism. The felicitation addresses was delivered by Shri. E. P. B. Rajithan, Vice President, Academics, Ahalia Group. He spoke about the importance of the event to the young leaders of future. Later Dr. P. R. Suresh, Principal, Ahalia School of Engineering & Technology also delivered the felicitation address. The preliminary round of the competition began by 11.00am. The faculty members from Ahalia School Of Media Studies & Future Technologies, Mr Godly Timo Koshy, Mr Abhilash Vijayan, Mr Sachin Joseph Koshy, Mr Amalesh Vija and Mr Subramanian K. V. along with faculty members of ASCM namely Mrs Sheeba Kumar S., Ms Jini K.S., Ms Ritu Krishna.R.,Mr Sreenath K. and Ms Nileena P. V. were the judges in various panels. Each participant read a news article within a stipulated time frame. The judges evaluated their performance based on confidence, clarity, pace, expression, and overall impact. 24 students from the preliminary round were selected to the main round of the News Reading competition. The Participation certificates were distributed to all the students after preliminary round. The main round of the competition was held from 2:30 p.m. where we had experienced media professionals in the judging panel. Many participants demonstrated excellent confidence and clarity in their presentation. The first prize was won by V. V.  Gauri of G.H.S. Bemmannur School and the second prize was won by Adith U. P. of P.M. Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ottappalam. The prize distribution ceremony was conducted to honour the winners Naveen Raj delivered the vote of thanks by expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, guests, and participants for making the event a success The master of ceremony, Niranjan Krishna R, ensured the smooth flow of the program Overall, the News Reading Competition was a successful event that brought together students, dignitaries, and media professionals to promote news reading skills and journalism.
